Julie Rousseau Named Head of York House School

York House School
The York House School Board of Governors has appointed Julie Rousseau as Head of School.

Julie is a passionate bilingual educator who empowers an inclusive and caring culture where instruction is personalized and focuses on relevant, experiential learning opportunities for students. With 26 years of experience in both public and Independent School education, ranging from Kindergarten to graduate level teaching and both school and district level administration, she has assisted educators and school leaders with strategic planning, program and curriculum implementation, supervision for learning, faculty development, and parent education. With a focus on building community, she is passionate about empowering educators to move towards a common vision regarding student achievement and well-being.

Julie received her Bachelors of Education in TESL and Physical Education from McGill University, her post Baccalaureate Diploma in Education from Simon Fraser University and a Masters in Educational Leadership from the City University of Seattle. As a teacher, she taught French Immersion from Kindergarten to Grade 12 and has also taught at the graduate level for City University of Seattle since 2008. During her 8 years as an administrator with the Abbotsford School District, Julie's roles included, Vice-Principal and Principal at the Secondary level as well as senior-level leadership as the Director of Curriculum overseeing curriculum, instruction and assessment at all levels throughout the district.

In 2015, she joined the York House School community and became the Assistant Head of Learning, Creativity and Innovation, where she worked closely with the academic leadership team to provide support and direction to faculty in the areas of pedagogy, instructional and assessment practices, curriculum design, and leadership. She transitioned into the role of Assistant Head of School in 2016.

As Head of School, Julie looks forward to empowering York House School’s tradition of excellence and innovation in education and supporting our curious, energetic, and remarkable Yorkies.
