Frequently Asked Questions

List of 10 frequently asked questions.

  • What is the value of attending an all-girls school?

We cultivate an inspirational and supportive learning environment where girls take centre stage and are challenged to achieve their full potential. At York House School, girls are provided with many opportunities to develop their leadership skills while building their self-confidence and broadening their interests. Immersed in a culture of achievement, Yorkies are empowered to build qualities of teamwork, compassion, empathy, and resilience. They experience success in all aspects of a York House School education and develop lifelong, meaningful friendships.

For more information on the value of a girls-only education, we encourage you to visit the National Coalition of Girls’ Schools.
  • What kind of student thrives at York House?

Students who will thrive in a challenging academic environment, enjoy participating in music, art, drama and/or athletics, and show compassion and interest in the world around her. We aim to enroll students who are enthusiastic learners, keen to actively participate, willing to take risks, and who will live our motto Not for Ourselves Alone.
  • What are your intake years?

Our intake years are Junior Kindergarten (16 new students), Senior Kindergarten (24 new students), Grade 5 (4 new students) and Grade 8 (24-26 new students). For all other grades, we will only have openings if current families withdraw. This is not something we can predict but historically speaking, we do experience unexpected enrollment changes throughout the year. For this reason, we encourage and accept applications to all grade levels every year.

York House School values our community. Applicants who currently have sisters at the school, and/or if their mother or grandmother attended York House School, are given priority provided they fully meet all the admissions requirements.

Junior Kindergarten has 16 children with two teachers. Senior Kindergarten has 20 children with two teachers. Junior school classes have 20-22 students in Grades 1-7. At the Senior School level, the class size varies from 6 to 22 students depending on the subject.
