Led by expert instructors, you’ll take your ideas from a spark to a solution and have fun developing skills that make a real impact in the modern world.
Junior School
Younger Yorkies have scheduled classes in the Innovation Lab and the Atelier to explore interdisciplinary projects and skills geared at their learning level. Using the design process, they engage in solving problems and answering questions that relate to real-world contexts. Equipped with tools and resources that highlight engineering and technical skills, the Innovation Lab is also open to teachers and Ed Tech Coordinators for collaboration and to Senior students and staff working on their own projects.
Junior Yorkies also access the Atelier and the materials and resources that connect the arts to other disciplines, including the sciences. This is done through projects such as abstract photography of thermal energy or charcoal sketching of animal skeletons.
In dedicated Ed Tech classes, students Grades Three to Five develop safe digital practices and digital resiliency.
Senior School
Senior School Students learn fundamental skills and put critical thinking skills to the test in the STEAM Lab and modular computer Media Lab. Design an escape room theme, then build it. Program your own robotic device. Learn how to use AI to its fullest, safest potential. With courses like Engineering and co-curricular opportunities like Maker Space and Design Club, the beginning of many bright futures in STEAM start right here.
Entrepreneurship and Marketing
Go-getters and self-starters find their place here. In Junior School, students explore entrepreneurship and marketing principles through project work that also integrates ADST, Math, and Literacy. In Senior School, Entrepreneurship and Marketing classes at York House offer the fundamentals to succeed in business and beyond. Learn the importance of a growth mindset, how to give and receive constructive feedback, and using empathy to find sustainable, human-centered answers to contemporary problems as you construct your own business while building products in the STEAM lab. Outings, interviews, and guest speakers will increase your confidence and develop the networking abilities you’ll use as a future business leader.
