Wellness and Personal Counselling

Students thrive when their well-being is prioritized as much  as their learning experience and achievements. Personal counsellors at York House facilitate a safe and confidential space where students can share their thoughts, feelings, and experiences with trusted support.

Counselling may be helpful when a student is experiencing personal, mental health, social, academic, and/or health challenges or dealing with a transition or loss in their lives. Our counsellors listen attentively and support students' growth by helping them understand their emotions, develop new approaches to navigate their experiences and relationships, and build coping skills and resilience when facing challenges.

York House School counsellors also facilitate wellness workshops for students to build awareness and life skills related to decision-making and problem-solving, emotional well-being and mental health, and stress management, among others.

Supporting Students

Students can drop by, call, or email to make an appointment during school hours to see a school counsellor. Counsellors provide short-term counselling and may refer students to another professional or community agency when appropriate. When a student is already working with an external professional, the YHS counsellor's role is to collaborate and support the student's school life.

Supporting Families

When appropriate, school counsellors may provide helpful resources for parents and guardians, suggestions on how best to support their child(ren), or referrals to external professionals or agencies.
