Physical and Health Education
A strong foundation for lifelong wellness
Physical and Health Education (PHE) at York House School empowers Yorkies to thrive in body and mind. Instead of teaching only traditional exercise and fitness, our focus is on well-rounded physical literacy—the motivation, confidence, ability, knowledge, and understanding to participate in and enjoy being active! By building these skills early on, Yorkies develop healthy, well-rounded habits that benefit their mental and social wellbeing, too.
Junior School phe
Junior School students discover how to use movement and activity as tools to better understand their bodies. They learn how and why to make healthy choices, exploring the essential role physical activity plays in our overall health and happiness. Using Canada’s Sport for Life physical literacy principles, our teachers guide students to prioritize an active body, focused mind, and meaningful relationships—a strong foundation they’ll use for life.
Senior School PHE
In Senior School, Yorkies build and refine their physical literacy and health knowledge through a diverse range of activities. From new types of movement to competitive sports, students are empowered to explore their passions and take ownership of their wellbeing—making informed personal decisions and creating healthy habits that will carry them into a life that’s fulfilling in every sense.
