Global Online Academy at YHS
Engage in a world of learning beyond the walls of the York House campus
York House is a member of Global Online Academy (GOA), a network of exceptional schools across six continents and more than 30 countries. Students who enroll gain flexible access to innovative and enriched courses beyond the core and elective course offerings already available at York House School.
Choose from a range of interactive online courses, and connect with a diverse global community of peers and expert teachers. Whether you’re thinking ahead to post-secondary aspirations or diving into a passion, GOA is a tool to help Yorkies shape your future, your way.
How GOA Works
Think of GOA courses like electives—you can choose subjects that spark your curiosity and gain credits in addition to the established York House curriculum. You’ll study and participate in an online classroom, forming connections with fellow students and teachers from around the world—all while gaining practical experience with digital tools.
Assignments, discussions, and projects are a chance to apply your new-found skills and encourage deeper thinking and engagement. Classes are small, so you’ll get personalized attention and feedback—and throughout your journey, your GOA teacher and the York House Site Coordinator will be there to offer support and guidance.
GOA learning is designed to be primarily asynchronous, meaning you’ll set your own pace to work on course content and practice self-motivation and independence. Some components will be synchronous, which means you’ll work with your classmates and instructors at a set time—usually via video conferencing across different time zones.
GOA is a non-profit, fully accredited organization. Courses are developed and taught by teachers within the GOA consortium, and all material and assessment approaches are in keeping with BC curriculum.
How to Enroll
All students who wish to participate in a GOA course must complete an application.
Policies on GOA Courses at YHS
GOA courses are available to students in Grades 11 and 12, and are taken in addition to the YHS A-H block courses. Students may not take a GOA course in lieu of a YHS course within their timetable.
