University Admissions

Each student at York House discovers a program of interest
Our University Admissions program ensures each student at York House discovers a program of interest and pursues the qualifications for admission to a university of her choice.

Where our students study and what they study are not nearly as important as how happy and fulfilled they are at university. We pride ourselves on supporting our students to discover the best ‘fit’ for them to pursue further study. Our University Admissions program focuses on self-discovery, course planning, post-secondary research, the university and scholarship application process, and career research to ensure that students make informed choices about their post-secondary education. Our students share with us that they are prepared for their programs and enjoy their first year.

YHS students are admitted to a wide range of post-secondary academic programs including Architecture, Business and Commerce, Arts, Design, Engineering, Fashion, Science, as well as to direct entry programs for Medicine and Law in the UK. Additionally, students have gained acceptance to highly selective specialized schools such as the Sauder School of Business at UBC, the Richard Ivey School at Western, and Mercyhurst University in Pennsylvania.

A resource centre, university liaison visits, test, essay and interview preparation workshops, and individual counselling with full-time post-secondary counsellors are some of the tools we use to deliver our program. University personnel are invited to speak to graduates about the transition to university and York House alumnae often return to the school to provide insights from their university experience.

We are proud that 100% of our graduates receive an offer of admission to four-year programs at some of the most prestigious universities, such as Standford, St. Andrews, McGill, and UBC. Our graduates have also been recipients of major entrance scholarships at Cambridge, Stanford, Cornell, Western, and UBC. National scholarships such as the Loran Award, the Schulich Leader Scholarship and the TD Scholarship for Community Leadership have also been awarded to past graduates. We are proud of our alumnae for pursuing degrees at the finest institutions across North America and abroad and for finishing their degrees and going on to pursue second degrees or jobs in their field. Through regular contact with our alumnae, we continue to hear their fabulous stories of success; our alumnae are living happy, healthy and fulfilling lives.

Career-Life Connections

Our Career-Life Connections (CLC) courses provide students with opportunities to explore their own career-life journey as they focus on personal development and capacity building—as both individuals and as a community—in preparation for life after high school. Students build foundational knowledge through experiential learning opportunities where they can develop essential skills and awareness that guide their post-secondary planning and future career choices. This includes a YHS Capstone, a student-selected and student-driven project inspired by an area of personal interest, or passion, that extends beyond the walls of our school. As the driver of their Capstone, students propose a project idea that will allow them to explore their interests while working with a YHS Capstone Advisor and an external mentor. The YHS Capstone engages and inspires Yorkies to pursue their goals as they follow their passions and find purpose in something relevant and meaningful for them.
