Dear Parents of Grade 8 students:
Please share the following information with your daughter.

GRADE 8 ORIENTATION
Wednesday, September 9

Hello Grade 8s!

We are so excited to meet you and welcome you back to school on Wednesday, September 9! Please wear your York House PE uniform on this day so you can be comfortable and be able to move around. Please bring:

a mask
water in a refillable water bottle
your fully charged laptop
pencil or pen

Agenda for Wednesday, September 9:

8:00 am - 8:25 am
If you attended York House in Junior School, please enter the school at the gate on West 26th Avenue that is closest to the cafeteria and make your way down the stairs to the Gail Ruddy Foyer. Please complete the health check and sanitize your hands, then get your name tag. Put your name tag on somewhere where it is easy for others to see, and go to your Teacher Advisor Group (TAG) table to meet your Teacher Advisor (TA) and your TAG mates. You will enter the theatre as a TAG and sit together.

If this is your first year at York House, please have your parents drop you off on our King Edward Avenue layby, and make your way to our Senior School entrance on Alexandra Street. Please complete the health check and sanitize your hands, then get your name tag. Put your name tag on somewhere where it is easy for others to see. Make your way to the Gail Ruddy Foyer and go to your Teacher Advisor Group (TAG) table to meet your Teacher Advisor (TA) and your TAG mates. You will enter the theatre as a TAG and sit together.

8:30 am - 9:15 am

9:15 am - 11:00 am
Grade 8 students will be separated into two groups. One group will meet in TAG first while the second participates in technology training, then the groups will switch.

For TAG, your TA will take you to your usual TAG meeting area. You will receive your schedule, a York House School agenda, and a lock for your locker. You will have the opportunity to walk to your classrooms, find your locker and practice using your lock. A nut-free snack will be provided during this time.

For technology training, you will use your laptop to get onto York House School (YHS) WiFi and access your YHS email account. We will also review our Responsible Use of Technology contract.

11:00 am - 12:30 pm

The goals for the session:

for students to begin to make connections as a Grade 8 class and leave feeling energized and hopeful about the school year;
for students to mix up and pair or group with people they don't know well (advocate making groups);
for each new student to come away from the activity feeling that she has one or two connections, friendly faces, people she can talk to or eat lunch with when she comes back for the first week;
for returning students to come away from the activity having someone new that they would invite to join them for lunch.

Your parents can pick you up from the King Edward Avenue layby between 12:30-12:45 pm.
