Care Canada "Walk in Her Shoes": Join the YHS Team on Sun. March 8
Women and girls in developing countries walk an average of seven kilometres every day to collect essentials such as water and food for their families, leaving little time to go to school or earn money. This thought inspired CARE Canada to create the annual Walk in Her Shoes event, where people can participate in a walk of solidarity to support these women and girls. The event includes a walk around the beautiful Olympic Village, where there will also be a live band, vendors, kids activities, hot beverages, an education zone, guest speakers, silent auction, prizes, and more! This year the event will be fundraising for the Healthy Moms, Healthy Babies project; a project that aims to combat the root causes of malnutrition in women of reproductive age, beginning in Malawi, Mozambique, and Zambia. The initiative includes providing nutrition counselling for pregnant and nursing women, the creation of backyard gardens, building wells and water systems to ensure potable water, empowering women through providing education on village savings accounts and loans associations, and the list continues. Click here if you would like to research further.

If you have any questions please feel free to reach out to me at [email protected]. York House is such a special community that we are all fortunate to be a part of as it provides endless support and empowerment to young women. Essentially, this walk is attempting to provide the same type of empowerment to women in Malawi, Mozambique, and Zambia. I hope you all consider being a part of this wonderful event and help to empower not only your daughter, but also women and girls around the world.

I look forward to seeing you all there,

Devon, Grade 11
