York House School welcomed back alums and the community in late September for Alum Week and Founders' Day.
Golden Alums Alums from 1951-1973 returned to York House on Wednesday, September 20 and spent the morning reconnecting with their classes and took a tour of the Alum Gallery and Museum & Archives on campus. Lunch followed at the University Women's Club at Hycroft Manor. Special thanks and appreciation to our YHS Chamber Choir and music teacher, Benila Ninan.
Founders' Day Students, staff, parents, alums, families and friends gathered at our Founders' Day assembly on September 21 to celebrate school traditions that continue to inspire Yorkies to strive onward and upward. Dr. Sarah Brayne '03 was recognized with the 2023 YHS Alum Special Achiever Award for her contribution in Education and three staff members were celebrated as honourary alums for reaching 10 years of service at the school.
Congratulations to Ella '24 and Maggie '24 for receiving the YHS Foundation Awards, and to our Grade 12s who were presented with their graduation pins, signifying an official welcome into the YHS Alum Association. Thank you to our alums who returned to present the graduation pin to their graduating family members. In the spirit of our founders, the YHS community continues to uphold our motto "Not for Ourselves Alone" and seeks ways to make a difference.
Alum Day
We welcomed back Dr. Sarah Brayne, the 2023 YHS Alum Special Achiever along with her parents, Robin and Shirley '67 on Saturday, September 23 on Alum Day. Faculty member Meredith McInnis facilitated a discussion with Sarah about her research into big data, surveillance and policing in the United States and also about her work with the Texas Prisoner Education Initiative.
