Grade 4s showcase their moon research
YHS parents and guardians along with the Grade 3 classes gained some new knowledge about the moon thanks to the showcase led by the Grade 4Y class. The creativity and hard work put into this showcase was a great demonstration of the in-depth knowledge the 4Y class gained through planning and research.
Throughout their solar system unit, our Grade 4 students generated insightful questions that sparked interest and inquiry into further investigations, focusing their discussion to five key topics:
-
Astronauts in Space
-
The Moon Landing
-
How the moon affects our seasons/oceans
-
Addressing misconceptions about the moon
-
Other moons in the solar system
With these topics narrowed down, they got to work putting together a variety of different physical and digital media, including posterboards, models, diagrams, and presentations. By hosting a showcase of their work, not only did the Grade 4 class learn to direct their own research, but they learned how to use their own creativity to communicate their findings to others. Whether it was through a moon tracking chart, a diagram on phases of the moon, or a model of the International Space Station, there was something interesting to learn for everyone, resulting in an engaging showcase and learning opportunity for students and parents alike.
