This shortlist of names comes from evaluating the 150 submissions against the basic and distinguishing criteria (listed below), and from reviewing the extensive feedback received through email, feedback forms, a student survey and in-person and virtual focus groups.

Criteria for New Names
Basic Criteria
In order to be eligible, name submissions should fit these basic criteria:
Names provide inspiration and energy
Names that students will be proud to represent
Names should have an overarching theme with four specific yet connected names
Names that are understandable for students aged 5 and up
Names are not associated with Indigenous peoples’ names or cultural practices
Distinguishing Criteria
The most successful names will incorporate one or more of these criteria:
Names that help unify and build community within the YHS community
Names are consistent with the YHS values—respect, integrity, courage, empathy, responsibility
Names might reflect our history and future as a school
