Learning Strategies

Providing individualized support to students
The Learning Strategies department provides regular, scheduled support to students with Individual Education Plans (IEPs).

Learning Strategies

Mission

The Learning Strategies department benefits students by:
  • Advocating for students’ academic and socio-emotional needs at school;
  • Providing individualized support to students;
  • Collaborating with teachers;
  • Liaising with families and outside service providers;
  • Facilitating full inclusion into the school community.

The Learning Strategies department offers regular, scheduled support to students with Individual Education Plans (IEPs) during designated Resource or Support blocks, as well as a distraction reduced test-taking environment for students entitled to that accommodation as documented in their IEPs. In addition to these services, the department also offers study skill sessions and drop-in exam preparation at designated times in January and May for all students.

Make Up Test Drop-Ins

Friday mornings (7:15 am - 8:30 am) and Tuesdays after school (3:20 pm - 4:35 pm) are dedicated times for students not on IEPs to come in and make up any tests or quizzes they missed during the previous week.

Learning Strategies Hours

The Learning Strategies department is open every day before school (7:30 am), at lunch after the AP bell, and after school (until 4:30 pm).

All students working with IEPs are welcome to drop in and work on homework, prepare for tests, or check-in with one of the Learning Strategies teachers or peer tutors. At lunchtime after the AP bell, students can come complete tests or work with a teacher to organize or plan assignments.
