Q & A

What advice would you give your high school self about the path that you've chosen?
I would have told myself that it’s okay not to know what you want to do when entering university and it’s okay to change your mind. It took me two years to figure out my career path. Also, don’t be nervous to take risks. Moving to London, England for two summers allowed me to become independent.

What was the one thing/person that most influenced the career you have now?
My parents have been the most influential because they guided me towards sales, which is ultimately where I wanted to be without knowing it. They encouraged me to keep an open mind and take advantage of new opportunities. While I never expected to go into sales, following their advice opened up a world of opportunity, and has allowed me to develop new skills and relationships.

What is the most valuable career advice you have received?
Both the relationships that you build today and that you make in the future have the potential of creating opportunities for you. Also, embrace change as change is constant and being able to adapt is necessary to be successful.

What is the most important thing that you learned at York House that has helped you to succeed in your career?
YHS taught me the true value of community and living up to the motto “not for ourselves alone”. While working at MediaValet and SAP I’ve learned to develop relationships with my colleagues and embrace the work culture.

What’s your most vivid memory of your time at YHS?
One of my most vivid memories is being mentored by a grade 6 “big girl” when I was in Grade 1. We would sit and spend time together reading. From a young age, York House promoted mentorship and an environment where one could look to their fellow Yorkies for guidance and support. This environment is reflected in my work environment where there are endless opportunities and people to learn from. It is important to take advantage of these opportunities and to also give back when you can.

Who was the most influential person at York House School for you and why?
The person I was most influenced by at YHS was Mrs. Keitel, as she provided me with great career advice. She helped me get involved in a work experience program at the Vancouver Aquarium. Through this experience, I had the opportunity to develop public speaking skills and determined I wanted a career that involved working with people.
