In May 2009, Chemistry 11 and 12 students wrote the Thompson Rivers University Chemistry Contest. Andrea Wong in grade 11 placed first overall among 1300 students. Greta Joy, Alison Lindsay and Victoria Wills placed in the 95th percentile. |

Kathleen Beekman in Grade 8 won a gold medal at the Regional Science Fair in April 2009 and qualified for the Canada Wide Science Fair in Winnipeg, Manitoba, accompanying sixteen high school students from the Greater Vancouver area. She shared her project "Horsey Matters" with 500 young scientists from across Canada and won an honourable mention in the Junior Earth and Environmental category. |

Lauren Curthbertson was chosen to participate in the Heart and Stroke Foundation of BC and Yukon's High School Summer Research Program at the University of British Columbia in July 2009. She worked in Dr. Yu Tian Wang's laboratory at the Brain Research Centre, under the direct supervision of researcher Ted Lai, working on discovering a method for rapid, efficient, and selective degradation of proteins, specifically the protein Homer1b, a potential mediator of cell death following stroke |

Success at the World Debating and Public Speaking Tournament in Reading, England. In Spring 2009 Zamyla Morgan Chan competed in Persuasive Speaking, Interpretive Reading, Impromptu Speaking and Debating. She made the finals in both Persuasive and Interpretive Reading and earned 5th place in the entire tournament. |

YHS Bilingual Debate celebrated another success in Spring 2009. Grade 11's Annie Pei and Andrea Wong placed third as a team in the 4th Annual Sommet Tardif National Francophone Debating Championships, making them the third highest ranking team in Canada. |
